One of my favourite things about being part of the ‘ Travel Blogging World’, is coming across the many types of people who are embracing a life of Travel and discovering what drives their passion. This week, I was lucky enough to find out a little more about Irina and Tomas, from ” The Out of Office,” and was once again inspired to hear of the journey of another couple.
Tired of the usual daily grind? My next interviewee will encourage you to ditch your comfort zone and peruse an unconventional life, one that will excite you for the rest of your days!
Up until recently, Irina and Tomas lived a 9-5 lifestyle, working within the cooperate industry, with their career as their primary focus. When they decided to take the risk and go “Out of the Office” full time, they had no idea what was in store for them. One thing was for sure; they were never looking back!
Meet Travel Couple, Irina and Tomas.
” Hi! It’s Irina and Tomás here. Irina is originally from Russia, and Tomás is from Argentina. We met in Dubai 2 years ago, when we both came here for an international assignment. Since then, we started dating, got married and discovered over ten countries in the Middle East and Africa. Up to now, we lived a pretty normal life -working for a big international corporation, growing our professional career and traveling as much as we could from our home in Dubai.
Our future ahead looked promising: we were ready to have kids and get a mortgage. But for months we felt the urge to leave our comfort zone. We love taking risks, innovating and opting for the out-of-the-box situations. Alas, we decided to change everything- Our job, where we lived and plans for our future. “
Are you a solo traveller/ business traveller/ luxury traveller/ backpacker or couple travel? Why?
We are now getting ready for the biggest trip of our lives. A round-the-world trip in which we will focus on different clusters. The first trip is a 3-month stint in Europe, visiting more than ten countries. Besides the traveling, we are working on our dreams, passions, ideas regarding work. We want to do something different, something we’ve never done before, something that will keep us going. We don’t know what it is, but we’ll be sharing everything in our blog theoutofoffice.com.
How long have you been blogging? What blogging platform do you use?
We started our blog The Out Of Office right after we decided to leave corporate world (as of January this year). Why ‘The Out of Office?’ In the business industry, whenever you go on leave you write an ‘Out of Office’ auto-reply. We decided to make our life one big trip through life and different destinations. So we went out of office for good!
We use WordPress as it is very comfortable and versatile service for creating a website. Also, we are promoting our blog on Facebook under the same name and have been working on our content strategy for a while now. Irina’s background is Marketing, and Tomás is technology, so you can imagine how much planning and thinking we are putting behind our platforms!
Although our blog is only one month old, we already received lots of feedback and positive comments. Apparently, our case is very inspirational to those who work in corporate world and dreams to leave it one day for a big dream like we did. Therefore we try to be very transparent about how we decided to take a significant step of change and what helped us to go through all the stress and challenges.
What is your favourite place you have visited?
Iceland was the best trip ever! It is very authentic, extreme, unreal and fascinating. The biggest thing that happened to us was Northern lights at New Year’s Eve.
We had been chasing the Northern Lights for about four nights, with no luck. In New Year’s Eve Night, we went to a lighthouse near the city, waited 1 hour, got upset and decided to go back to the hotel. As we were starting the car, suddenly Aurora Borealis appeared! It was bigger and brighter than we could imagine, We honestly couldn’t believe our eyes! Truly unforgettable experience!!!
We forgot to set up our camera in advance and did a couple of shots that are far from perfect. But in reality, it was so much better – like a brush with green paint went over the sky! It was a dream come true!
What piece of advice would you give to a new travel blogger?
Our advice is “don’t try to be anyone else but yourself!”. It sounds like a cliché but what we realized is when you reveal your true self, people are more interested in your content. It can also help you to narrow down your target group and engage with people of the same interest. In our case, we think our example is inspirational for young professionals and office workers who are at the stage of making significant choices in their career and personal life. We don’t want to tell everyone to quit the jobs and go traveling; we just want to show how life out of the office can be. And those who want to do big change we are giving lots of tips
